Five years and more than 1200 quilts!

Happy birthday

Happy Birthday, Bienvenidos Quilts!

It’s our fifth birthday! In February of 2021, a great idea was plopped into Rachel’s open arms.

“Who me?” she shouted. “Are you kidding?!”

Then the answer came back to her: “Trust.”

“Say what?!” she said.

“Trust!”

So she took the idea to the women’s group, Eve’s Circle, at FCUCC.

Judy Bishop said, “We can do that. We have made 200 dresses for kids in Africa, we can do this.”

Shortly thereafter, four women met at Rachel’s house. They were: Susan Adcock, Elaine Molskness, Anne Muir, and Rachel Stevens.

They sewed together every Monday, and by May of 2021, they met with other women from Eve’s Circle on Rachel’s front porch and drew up their plans. They decided to start by giving quilts to Casa Alitas in Tucson and Green Samaritan in southern Arizona, places where Susan Rogers and Judy Bishop had previously volunteered. Karen Hurst suggested the flannel backing strategy. By June, they were meeting in the Fellowship Hall every Monday. Now, five years later, we and our friends have made, gathered and distributed 1200 quilts! Not only have we made quilts, but we have developed a network of amazing and supportive relationships.

And our guide words are still, “Trust. Trust!”
